Chartered in 1984 by a group of philanthropic citizens, and opened in 1987 as Crittenden County’s first homeless shelter, the Mission began in one building, at 103 S. 8th Street- hence the name. The Mission has consistently expanded its services demonstrating Christian generosity, love, and the saving grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ. It is now housed in 10 separate buildings, with offices at 717 E. Broadway. In 2003, we became a member of the Association of Gospel Rescue Missions and became the first “Rescue” Mission in Eastern Arkansas. As of July 2009, Lee Crawford became the fifth Executive Director of the Eighth Street Mission for Jesus Christ.
